Once upon a time, long...long ago a fair haired girl child was born in a dusty place under a thunder moon with the green mountains looking on from the distance. Many fanciful names were discussed for the child, including "Alberta" and "Ruby" but in the end common sense prevailed and the girl was given a good solid Irish name. Despite that the girl was anything but sensible.

She came from nomadic people who were constantly on the move. Sometimes they took her along and sometimes they sent her to live with one of the elders, where she stood on a chair to help with the dishes and ate delicacies like kippered salmon and pickled beets, and admired other people's gardens. All this traveling to and fro had it's merits but it also left her very shy. She had no siblings and never knew anyone long enough to form lasting friendships. She was always "the new girl," so she turned to other options for friends.

She would go dutifully to school and learn the 3 R's and then come home and learn things that are really important like how to speak to cats and understand them, the importance of glass buttons, why you should dress up to go to the doctor, and how to make perfect chocolate chip cookies. She read about many exotic places and things that happened long ago. In her need to know everything under the sun, she asked a thousand questions and waited patiently for a thousand answers. She had tea parties with her Raggedy Ann, and Oscar and Bruno; her two teddy bears, that once belonged to her Father. She played dress up in her Grandmother's clothes, punched designs from the fronts of cereal boxes with a pin and made parachutes out of flowered handkerchiefs that soared along with her imagination. She loved Christmas and couldn't wait for it every year because a wonderful feeling would overtake her heart, and seemingly the hearts of everyone around her. Even though she was happy without all the fripperies some people have, she had been known to remark that when she grew up she would have all the toys she wanted.

She grew into a lovely young woman and she discovered that being shy wasn't good, so she learned not to be shy. She began to think maybe being rich and famous was the thing to do with one's life. She dreamed of being an actress or a lawyer and went to school to become something great, but deep down she knew money could only bring her two types of happiness. One would be to travel the world and see it's sights and the other would be sharing it with those less fortunate. Apparently Mistress Fate knew it as well and intervened accordingly by showing the girl her true self. She was destined to make things that made other people happy. She would never be rich or famous, but it was ok.

More years passed and she learned her craft. She spent most of her time making the bears and people came to buy them. She made some good friends and learned to dance and have fun, and make creative outfits. She grew smarter and stronger, but never lost her love for the bears.

She secretly dreamt of having a real companion, someone she could love and tell all her secrets to. She began dating men and casting them aside in a manner akin to Goldilocks with the porridge. This one was too hot, that one was too cold...but she couldn't find one that was just right. When she had despaired of ever meeting someone Mistress Fate intervened again and delivered him up right to her doorstep. He wasn't a Prince Charming, he was better because as we all know Prince's are too high maintenance. He was an ordinary fellow sort of charming with a heart of gold. He was her opposite and yet they were the same. They fought like cats and dogs right from the beginning and so naturally it was meant to be.

Many years later he still indulges her odd whims and creative snits and need to rescue every stray she finds. He always waits patiently while she obsessively returns shopping carts in parking lots, and runs off to look at shiny bits of cellophane glinting in the sun. She shakes her head over his need to eat pizza nearly once a week, why he doesn't understand that women need 14 pair of black shoes, his unnatural ability to fall asleep instantaneously and love of roller coasters...and she loves him all the more for it.

She has traveled the world, and spread the love with her bears and trinkets for 29 years to as many as she could. She has learned true contentment with all that she is...both good and bad, and all that she has. She lives in a happy home with green mountains looking on from the distance with the charming fellow, cats and dogs, and many bears that go out in the world to make people happy.
